Translating Mathematical Vernacular into Knowledge Repositories

چکیده
Defining functions is a major topic when building mathematical repositories. Though relatively easy in mathematical vernacular, function definitions rise a number of questions and problems in fully formal languages (see [Dav03]). This becomes even more important for repositories in which properties of the defined functions are not only stated, but also proved correct. In this paper we investigate function definitions in the Mizar system. Though most of them are straightforward and follow the intuition, we also found a number of examples differing from mathematical vernacular or where different solutions seem equally reasonable. Sometimes there even do not seem to exist solutions not somehow “ignoring mathematical vernacular”. So the question is: Should we seek for some kind of standard, that is a “formal mathematical vernacular”, or should we accept that different authors prefer different styles?

The Chinese Remainder Theorem, its Proofs and its Generalizations in Mathematical Repositories
In the spirit of mathematical knowledge management theorems are proven with computer assistance to be included into mathematical repositories. In the mathematical literature one often finds not only different proofs for theorems, but also different versions or generalizations with a different background. In mathematical repositories, for obvious reasons, there is usually one version of a theore...

Translating the exponentially growing amount of omics data into knowledge usable for a personalized medicine approach poses a formidable challenge. In this article-taking diabetes as a use case-we present strategies for developing data repositories into computer-accessible knowledge sources that can be used for a systemic view on the molecular causes of diseases, thus laying the foundation for ...
متن کاملRevisions as an Essential Tool to Maintain Mathematical Repositories
One major goal of Mathematical Knowledge Management is building extensive repositories, in which the mathematical knowledge has been verified. It appears, however, that maintaining such a repository is as hard as building it – especially for an open collection with a large number of contributors. In this paper we argue that even careful reviewing of contributions cannot cope with the task of ke...

How best to achieve the translation of research evidence into routine policy and practice remains an enduring challenge in health systems across the world. The complexities associated with changing behaviour at an individual, team, organizational and system level have led many academics to conclude that tailored, multifaceted strategies provide the most effective approach to knowledge translati...
متن کاملIntroducing a Lightweight Structural Model via Simulation of Vernacular “Pa Tu Pa” Arch
The knowledge of Iranian vernacular structures is based on geometry, and there is a possibility of recreating such structural patterns aimed at producing movable structures. The purpose of this research was to utilize the patterns of vernacular structures to provide a lightweight structural model. The questions raised included how to create various forms based on the structural history of any r...
